Shift Break Producers

Tom Herriman

Tom Herriman is the founder and producer of Shift Break. He is a journalist and union activist in Seattle. He is a member of the National Writers Union, UAW Local 1981 and a volunteer public affairs producer for KBCS FM.

Joan Kalhorn

Joan Kalhorn knew little about unions while growing up in Missouri. Then she moved to Cleveland, OH. That led to over thirty years as a labor investigator and a union representative and attorney for various labor unions. Toughest time: An 18-month nurses strike in the snow belt of Ashtabula, Ohio, featured both by CBS’ Sunday Morning and by Studs Terkel. And yes, the nurses came out with a good contract in the end.
